George Sulimirski has recently announced that the Double Five Club in London
is going into temporary hibernation. This is very sad as George and Diana
have run the club superbly for nearly seventeen years, starting out at the
Polish Club at 55 Exhibition Road (hence the name) and finishing at the St.
John's Wood Bridge Club. Many is the world champion who has passed though
its portals. We should all wish George & Diana well in what is hoped to be
only a temporary retirement.

The good news for London Players is that the St. John's Wood Bridge Club is
going to keep backgammon running at their location and rename it - surprise,
surprise! - the St. John's Wood Backgammon Club with play on Thursday
evenings from 7 p.m. and Sundays from 5 p.m. (the same hours as the Double
Five). The address and phone number of the club are:

St. John's Wood Backgammon Club

Grove Hall Court

Hall Road

London NW8

Tel: +44 (0)20-7286-7465

Play on the first few nights of re-opening will be at reduced rates and they
hope to re-introduce the low stakes chouette that has been missing in recent
months so please come along and support the club if and when you can.

London still can't match New York's Ace Point Club for availability and it
would be nice to see someone "do an Alan Steffen" and open the London
equivalent but until then we should support the clubs we do have.

There is a well spoken of Club in Ealing that is possibly what you are
looking for.

I run 1 pointer round robin tournaments (Tric Trac Tournos) on the 1st
Wednesday in every month at Ryan's Bar Stoke Newington that are
designed for novice and intermediate players, though a few better
players will be found there too. There are no money prizes but if you
win by gammons / backgammons you win miniture bottles!

There will be "Backgammon Live in London 2003" on Fri 7th, Sat 8th,
Sun 9th November. There are a few seats left. This also is not
designed for money players and there will be no cash prizes - prizes
will be items from our sponsors of whom Chris Bray is one. Details of
this event are at:
http://www.backpacker-backgammon.com/LiL03/home.html

Crockford's Club in Mayfair is by invitation only and they hold a £200
entry fee tournament.

The Duke of Cambridge in Battersea is for money players.
