I would make the 5 point. I'm not even sure what the alternative is.
With an excellent position and a centered cube, we are looking to cash
and to minimize the opponent's joker potential.

I suppose 6/5* 6/3* might be an alternative but it doesn't work well
if opponent hits and we roll a 6 while on the bar. It looks like an
overplay anyway, because all we need is an efficient cube.

Make the 5 point.

1) Saw it on Facebook.
2) The cube should be turned.
3) Cube position won't matter towards the correct play.

Yes i grabbed it from facebook.
No, what makes it more interesting imo is that the cube in this variant is centre.
Yes, as for (2)

I wonder if BlueDice was the one who posted it on Facebook?
(A yes is quite likely).
If not, an attribution should have been made, n'est-ce pas?

The checker position is absolutely identical but the cube isn't centred.
Just as Stick "Mr Accurate" Rice said.

I'm sure that OTB I would make the 5pt, but hitting twice is interesting.
It doesn't leave that many more shots, and it looks better structurally
---we keep the four-prime, unstack another spare from the heavy 6pt, and
make it harder for O to make a second anchor.

The double tiger is correct (XGR++).
The cube position is not relevant to the solution, the centered cube highlights that fact.
Great analysis from Tim makes me glad I posted it on here.
Well done Stick for spotting one of the differences with Michy's facebook post.

The other difference was the match score. The checker positions were
exactly the same.

The double tiger is correct (XGR++).
The cube position is not relevant to the solution, the centered cube highlights that fact.
With a centred cube, the aim is to get a cash. With a turned cube,
the objective is to maximise the equity. These are two very different
problems. It makes no sense to say "The cube is not relevant" just because
the two solutions happen to be the same.

The problem of calculating 4 - 2 is not the same problem as:
"Calculate the largest x for which x ^ 2 - 3x + 2 = 0" even though
they both have the answer 2.
